I have been reading a lot of Patrick O'Brian's novels lately. About captain of the Royal Navy, Jack Aubrey, and his friend, the surgon, naturalist and intelligence agent Stephen Maturin, fighting the french and their allies during the Napoleonic Wars.

(To those familiar with the books: This is not my rendition of Stephen Maturin, even though the choice of species may suggest that (given that he is an eminent ornithologist). I would never be so cruel)
